Federal Relief for Residents Impacted by Winter Storms

President Biden approved a Texas Disaster Declaration to provide federal assistance for individuals and businesses affected by the recent winter storms.

The President signed the declaration on February 19th, approving federal relief for 77 counties across the state of Texas. This federal assistance package includes:

-    Grants for temporary housing.
-    Coverage for home repair costs.
-    Low-cost loans for the losses of uninsured property.
-    Additional funding and aid to business owners and individuals affected by the disaster.

State governments, local governments, and certain nonprofit organizations also have disaster relief funding options available through FEMA (The Federal Emergency Management Agency).

Impact of the Recent Winter Storms on Texas

The recent winter storms affected over 14 million Texans, across 190 counties, leaving individuals and families without power for days on end.

The unrelenting frigid temperatures caused pipes to freeze over and burst in homes, businesses, and schools throughout the state. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reported that over 1,400 public water systems were affected by the onslaught of inclement weather.
